Disqus rocks

I really like the commenting system: Disqus, i’ve been using it for a while and it’s really well done, I have very few complaints about it.

It’s a little bit too full featured for what I care about, but that doesn’t get in the way.

If I were going to use it in a professional site, I would be worried a bit about losing SEO, properly optimized comments can pull in traffic and Google can’t see javascript comments. Of course this means it’s also a lower value target to spammers.

I took a look at Disqus’ API and it leaves a whole lot to be desired, theoretically you could pull in your comments but it would be a lot of work and you could just use an open source commenting system instead.

One thing I would like to see along the same lines is a miniature wiki that you could drop in via Javascript widget. I would use mini-wikis on a site I develop to do things like write an API documentation section, write ‘what does this mean’ type popups, write general help info.

I could also use it on my blog, I’ve done wiki style blog posts where I invite readers to help complete the post before with some good success.
