Using Adwords to Prototype Ideas
One tool we want to build into Adylitica is something to help you to decide how to design your product, by hacking Adwords into a poll.
The way this works is you come up with some ideas for your product, different directions you could take. Let’s say you are going to design a new web service for people to share and listen to music. You will likely have a list of ideas of things you could do: unlimited music storage, 10 gigabytes storage, cost point $50 for life, cost point $1 a month, cost point free, share an album with 1 click, embed a music widget on your blog, etc.
You would then take these ideas and create Google AdWords campaigns for all these features, as if the product already existed with these variations. For example for the price points, create identical ads but with the price differences. See how much demand drops as you increase price.
It’s a bit difficult to do it 100% scientifically because there are a lot of variables that cannot be controlled for, but it should give a general idea, without a huge investment, part of the beauty of adwords is that you can run it for just a week if you want, and start new ads at very small per click cost.
